My son was born in Australia in 1996 but he has now dual nationality which means that Portugal and especially Tomar has become a focus of interest to him. As a father I have mentioned so many things about Portugal and my home town, that he now feels curious about everything related to this historical town and its surrounding areas. Here he is at Carril Water Dam enjoying the views and environment of this agricultural area in Tomar.
My 15 year old son, admiring the views at Carril Water Dam, which was built in the countryside of Tomar, to irrigate olive plantations, fruit trees and vegetables in the lands of about 300 farmers
My son Nelson Fidalgo at Carril Water Dam near the City of Tomar, relishing the landscape which is quite beautiful. You can spend an entire afternoon in this area walking around, fishing, boating and swimming
My son with my wife and my sister in law at Carril Water Dam in Tomar. He has shown great interest in all things related to Portugal. After all his ancestors were Portuguese despite the fact that he was born in Australia
These are some of the old houses and apartments at Avenida Cândido Madureira in Tomar. This is one of the areas in town that I have such good memories, from the time I spent in Tomar when I was a kid. I lived here for almost three years. My house was close to the Seven Hills National Forest (Mata dos Sete Montes), but in the sixties, I usually played with my friends of the time in front of my aunties house, near Praceta Alves Redol.

The same house shown in the previous photos can now be seen on the other side of the road. To the right on top of Avenida Cândido Madureira is the entrance to the Seven Hills Forest
This is still Avenida Cândido Madureira but if you follow the road across the street you will end up at the building of the Tribunal of Tomar, located at Varzea Grande
This is once again Ponte do Flecheiro, which of course is a bridge located in an area of Tomar, called Flecheiro. Though I am from Tomar, when I last visited my home town about 12 years ago, this bridge didn’t exist as it was only inaugurated in December of 2008. So when I shot these pictures, everything I was seeing was new to me. In fact these area was basically inaccessible when I used to live in Tomar as it was covered with vegetation and in the middle ages it was a vegetable garden called Horta Del Rey, serving the Castle of Tomar.
Photo of the Flecheiro Bridge shot from Horta Del Rey Avenue in the City of Tomar. The name of this avenue was based on a vegetable garden in the middle ages called Horta Del Rey
From this point of view you can see the where Flecheiro Bridge starts, crossing Nabão River to the other side of the town. The forest in the background is behind a road called Estrada de Paialvo
At this stage I was already starting to cross Flecheiro Bridge. Behind me was the church od Santa Maria dos Olivais and on the other side of Nabão river was an avenue called Avenida Combatentes da Grande Guerra
