The photos of this part of Nabão River in Tomar were shot from Mouchão Island. The first two photos are close to Estalagem de Santa Iria and to a somewhat rough pathway which doubles as a dam. This trodden path links the two areas of the park. On this side is the island garden, but on the other side of the river is the swimming pool Vasco Jacob, the Camping Park of Tomar, the soccer and athletics field, the children’s playground and the sports pavilion.

This is a photo of a rough pathway at Nabão River in Tomar which is also a dam. This shot was taken from the top of small staircase at the Island of Mouchão Park
Another photo fo Nabão River shot from the Island of Mouchão. On the other side you can find some conveniences like a swimming pool, a camping park, a children's playground, a basketball court, etc
There was a time the Camping Park of Tomar (Parque de Campismo de Tomar), was considered one of the best in Europe. Then one day it closed its doors and only reopened six years later, completely renovated and modernized. This is a Camping Park basically located at the centre of the City of Tomar, at Mouchão Park and close to the soccer and athletics field and the swimming pool Vasco Jacob. This camping park in Tomar which I didn’t take any photos inside, is opened for the entire year and has all the amenities of modern camping grounds.
The Camping Park of Tomar to the right is located at Mouchão Park, close to the city centre and all the amenities around, including a swimming pool free of charge if you are camping there
The Camping Park of Tomar (Parque de Campismo) is on the other side of the fence on my right. On the left is the soccer and athletics field. A bit further ahead is the swimming pool Vasco Jacob
On my left and over the fence is the Camping Park of Tomar and behind me to the left is a swimming pool called Vasco Jacob. The size of this Camping Park is 20.580 square metres
I remember well this street in Tomar called Rua Voluntários da República, because it was close to where I used to live. This was a street full of old buildings, but with the demolition of old houses and the fact that the Town Council of Tomar extended this street, now it can be considered one of the modern areas of the city, at least partially. This street starts in the corner of Rua Marquês de Pombal and Alameda Primeiro de Março and ends at Praça do Bom Jardim.
This photo was shot at the beginning of Rua Voluntários da República in Tomar, close to Alameda Primeiro de Março and Rua Marquês de Pombal. There's a nice supermarket here and modern apartments
This block of apartments seem to be at Rua Voluntários da República but if not exactly on this street, I'm sure it's quite close, perhaps a street junction
This is the end of Rua Voluntários da República which finishes at Praça do Bom Jardim in Tomar. On the left is the Finibanco, a bank that didn't exist when I migrated to Australia in 1989
I think this is a house from the 19th century with furniture from the early 20th century. Anyway this is a typical old house in the City of Tomar, something that you don’t often see in these modern times. This house is at Rua Alexandre Herculano and belongs to a family where the men have been traditionally in the Portuguese army. I knew the old lady who used to live here. She was a cultured and classy lady and if she was alive she’d be almost 100 years old. At the moment this house is occupied by one of my sisters in law.
Old house with old furniture at Rua Alexandre Herculano in the City of Tomar. My mother who is 87 years old also has one chair similar to the one on the left corner of this room, next to the lamp
This is my wife and son walking up an old staircase in the house, leading to the attic, which is a treasure hunting place in its own right. I believe the furniture belongs to the beginning of the 20th century
Though we were in 2010, when I was in this room, I felt I had traveled at least 100 years to the past. The owner of this house would be almost 100 years old if she was still alive
Since I have been showing a few hotels and inns in Tomar, here are a new set of photos of another three places that tourists use for an holiday in Tomar. The first photo is of Residencial Sinagoga at Rua Gil Avô, which is the same street the Synagogue of Tomar in located. The second shot is from Pensão Luanda which took the name of the City of Luanda, the Capital of Angola. This inn is also a restaurant and it’s near Varzea Pequena at Rua Marquês de Tomar. The third picture is from Residencial Trovador at Rua 10 de Agosto, close to the Railway Station of Tomar.
Residêncial Sinagoga is located at Rua Gil Avô, which is the same street of the Sinagoga of Tomar, a temple of worship for the Portuguese Jewish community in Tomar
Pensão Luanda took the name of the Capital of Angola. I believe the owners came from that former Portuguese colony. As you can see, this photo was shot at night
Residêncial Trovador is located at Rua 10 de Agosto near Varzea Grande and the railway station of Tomar and is also close to the heart of the old part of Tomar
As far as I know, this green corner in Tomar doesn’t have a name and I suspect that most people who live in this city don’t usually come here. In fact when I lived in my home town many years ago, this area was somewhat inaccessible. Now you can come here through Rua de Santa Iria coming from Rua Marquês de Pombal, then turning right to a road that didn’t exist in my time. Once there it’s easy to find this area, which is situated at the banks of Nabão River, between the New Bridge and the Old Bridge. So you can have a better idea of where this spot is, please click HERE.
This is an old house near the banks of Nabão River, between the Old and the New Bridges in Tomar. This is a very quiet area near the centre of Tomar as not many people come here
Another view of this old house and green area in the City of Tomar. This is a very relaxing spot and a small paradise for those who want to take a few picturesque photos
A close up of the same house in a green area of the City of Tomar which is surprisingly beautiful. Behind me is Nabão River and on my right and left sides lie two bridges that connect the town
This spot in Nabão River in Tomar, close to Mouchão Park and a couple of well known restaurants, is always full of fish, usually big and fat like these ones. Since there are restaurants nearby, their customers often come here and feed them with scraps of food, mainly bread. As a result fish tend to concentrate here in large numbers. This spot in Tomar would probably be a dream for anglers, but fishing is forbidden here. It would be too easy to catch fish in this area and I’m sure anglers are all after a challenge not easy captures.
When I shot this picture of this shoal of fish at Nabão River in Tomar, I was leaning on a small wall separating the river and a road that leads to Mouchão Park
Behind me are tow well known restaurants near Mouchão Park and their customers often come here to feed the fish, usually in the same spot I took this photo.
The area of Nabão River that flows through and crosses the City of Tomar is always teeming with fish but you are now allowed to fish here. It would be too easy for anglers to catch fish in this stretch of waters
This is the last set of photos about the Festival of Human Statues in Tomar, in the summer/autumn of 2010. The first human statues portray a couple dressed with Portuguese costumes of past centuries, participating in the Festival of Trays (Festa dos Tabuleiros) which in 2011 attracted more than 500,000 people to Tomar. The second statue is of a Friar from 14th century of the Order of Christ, and the third statue is of Staticman portraying himself dressed in a costume of the 19th century. Staticman, whose real name is António Gomes Santos, holds the motionlessness Guinness record and motionlessness world record.

Today I am in an artistic mood and that’s why I decided to include another set of photos about dilapidated doors and crumbling walls in Tomar, Portugal. Believe it or not, but there are groups of photographers around the world who like to take photos of rusted and busted environments. Some people may say that the decayed conditions of these walls, doors and windows, look ugly and denotes lack of care from either the owners of the buildings or the town council. That may be true but if you look at these subjects with an artistic eye, they are worth watching.
These rusted and busted doors and windows at Travessa da Cascalheira in Tomar, may look ugly for some people, but for me they are beautiful pieces of abstract art
Both the red door and the wall at Travessa da Cascalheira in the City of Tomar, haven seen paint for quite a while, but that's the reason I find them interesting in an artistic abstract way
Green door in decay and a walls which haven't been touched with paint, possibly for many years, but in that lies the magic of abstract forms, colours and shapes. This photo was shot at Travessa da Cascalheira in Tomar
These photos of Rua Serpa Pinto (Corredoura) in Tomar are more the case of angles and where I took them from, than trying to show you how this street looks like. As most people know, angles in photography is based on the way and position a camera is positioned relative to the subject. The first photo was shot from the Old Bridge of Tomar, but the other two were taken from Corredoura, more or less in the same spot near Pastelaria Estrelas de Tomar. The difference is that I used different angles for the last two photos, hiding the Castle of Tomar in one of them.
Photo of Rua Serpa Pinto (Corredoura) shot from the Old Bridge of Tomar. As usual the Castle of the Knights Templar lies proudly on top of an hill
A better view of Corredoura in the City of Tomar. I walked from the Old Bridge, crossed Rua Everard and a few metres further took this picture. That green cross signals that there's a pharmacy there
A different angle of Rua Serpa Pinto taken near Café Estrelas de Tomar. On the right you can even see some of the patrons sitting on tables outside the coffee shop
