This is another set of photos of Estalagem de Santa Iria as it is known in Portuguese, or if you prefer Santa Iria Inn. My goal in this site is to promote Tomar and in the process I may mention commercial enterprises like this inn, but I’m not being paid for this. I just think that the things that are good and beautiful and beneficial deserve to be acknowledged. Santa Iria inn is in a great location. What better place to be than Mouchão Park surrounded by Nabão River?
This photo of Estalagem de Santa Iria in the distance, was shot from the other side of the Island of Mouchão
Another photo in the distance of Estalagem de Santa Iria, but this time it was taken in the Island of Mouchão behind the well maintained lawn of the park
I was right in the middle of the Island of Mouchão Park when I took this photo. On my right and left is Nabão River and behind me, across a small bridge is Rua Marquês de Tomar
I have shown a few photos of Hotel dos Templários before, but as this site is a photoblog about Tomar, there is always a place for more photos of the same topic, in different angles and different situations. This five stars hotel is located at Varzea Pequena in Tomar, but can be seen from other areas. In this case these pictures were shot from Mouchão Park, but not from the island of Mouchão. These were photos taken when I was around the area of the swimming pool Vasco Jacob.

Still Hotel dos Templários in Tomar. Behind me was the soccer field at Mouchão Park.
In this photo you can view a different perspective on Hotel dos Templários, thought the shot was basically taken from the same area of the previous two pictures
Since I have been showing a few hotels and inns in Tomar, here are a new set of photos of another three places that tourists use for an holiday in Tomar. The first photo is of Residencial Sinagoga at Rua Gil Avô, which is the same street the Synagogue of Tomar in located. The second shot is from Pensão Luanda which took the name of the City of Luanda, the Capital of Angola. This inn is also a restaurant and it’s near Varzea Pequena at Rua Marquês de Tomar. The third picture is from Residencial Trovador at Rua 10 de Agosto, close to the Railway Station of Tomar.
Residêncial Sinagoga is located at Rua Gil Avô, which is the same street of the Sinagoga of Tomar, a temple of worship for the Portuguese Jewish community in Tomar
Pensão Luanda took the name of the Capital of Angola. I believe the owners came from that former Portuguese colony. As you can see, this photo was shot at night
Residêncial Trovador is located at Rua 10 de Agosto near Varzea Grande and the railway station of Tomar and is also close to the heart of the old part of Tomar
Residencial Luz (Light Inn) at Rua Serpa Pinto (Corredoura) in the City of Tomar, also features in this site, not because I have any commercial interest, but because it’s located in the main street of Tomar and I used to walk past this lodging for travelers all the time, while I was in Portugal. The reasons some hotels and inns appear on my photoblog is more related to chance, circumstances and the fact that I like the photos. So there is no commercial interest on my part. Who knows may be in the future I will consider a site of Tomar dedicated to commerce and business. Anyway this inn is surrounded by restaurants, supermarkets and all kinds of shops. It’s also located in an area rich in historical monuments.

This is Residencial Luz at Corredoura at night and I shot this picture after having a coffee at the famous Café Paraíso in Tomar, which is 100 years old

After coming back to Australia from my visit last year to Portugal, bringing with me thousands of photos from Tomar, I decided to divide my work into topics. Since I had shot some of the places where travellers can lodge while in Tomar, I created this category called Hotels and Inns. So here is the União Inn, known in Portuguese as Pensão Residencial União, located at Rua Serpa Pinto (Corredoura) in the City of Tomar. What impressed me the most in this Inn was the two artistic tile panels at the entrance, as you can see in the first photo, shot at night.
Photo of the entrance to the Inn Pensão Residêncial União. Notice the two beautiful tile panels. On the left is a panel of the Chapter Window and on the right is a panel of a weir at Nabão River

Another view of Pensão Residêncial União in Tomar. One of the flags has the colours of the local soccer club, called União de Tomar, which at one time was playing first division football with the likes of Porto, Benfica and Sporting
Santa Iria Inn (Estalagem de Santa Iria) is an old but charming inn located in the small Island of Mouchão Park, in Tomar, Portugal, surrounded by Nabão River. I walked past this Inn many, many times, even as a kid in the 60’s when I used to go to Vasco Jacob swimming pool. As a resident of Tomar I never stayed there but when I wrote a column of Amateur Radio in the local newspaper Cidade de Tomar, I went there for a lunch party with illustrious people, a few of them now deceased and notables of the town. For example I sat near Dr. Nini Ferreira who now has a statue near the soccer field of Tomar at Mouchão Park, talking to Composer Lopes Graça.

Front view of Santa Iria Inn. This lodge was already here in the 60's and it seems that the furniture reflects that time
Building a photoblog like this and not mentioning Hotel dos Templários in Tomar, located near the beautiful gardens of Varzea Pequena, would be a mistake, given that this four stars hotel is as much a commercial organization as it is an icon of Tomar. Most reviews I read about this hotel are good and very good. I stayed there a few nights many years ago when I returned to Portugal from Angola and I felt great. At walking distance from the hotel is the historical town, Nabão River, Mouchão Park, the chapel of São Gregório and the monumental staircase that leads to the Chapel of Senhora da Piedade.
