These area of Tomar is vey familiar to me. when I lived in my home town, before leaving Portugal to Australia in 1989, I used to come here very often. It was my way of relaxing after a hard day’s work. The view to the town had a great calming effect on my mind. I used to park my car right right next to the chapel and enjoy the view without leaving the car, but sometimes I would wander around the chapel immersed on my thoughts.
Many years ago, before departing to Australia, I used to drive to the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição to relax and enjoy the views to the town of Tomar.

As you can see, the surface around the chapel is made of stone. They just left small round spaces to allow the trees grow. I believe this is a design from past centuries. Nowadays people don't usually restrict the free growth of trees
