Some people believe that panoramic photography must capture elongated views and therefore needs special equipment of software. I have a slight different opinion. According to well known dictionaries, a panorama is just a view of a wide area that is pleasant to look at. That’s what I think these three photos represent. They were shot from the Castle of Tomar and show pleasant wide area views.
This is what you can see if you take a photo from a certain spot at the Castle of Tomar
Another wide angle photo shot from the Castle of knights Templar in the City of Tomar
I caught this column of the Convent of Christ in Tomar when I took this panoramic photo
Some people may think that some of my photos are the same ones published in different areas of this Photoblog, but in fact, there isn’t a single duplicated photo in this site. In some cases they may look similar but they are all different. These set of panoramic photos may be one of those cases. They may have been shot from the same spot from an area in Tomar close to Estrada de Leiria, but none of them is a repeat. I had just returned from a visit to the Aqueduct of Pegões, and stopped here to take a few pictures.
Panoramic photo shot from a spot near Estrada de Leiria in Tomar. In the distance there seems to be some smoke. Not sure if there was any fire when I took this picture
Another Panorama of the City of Tomar down there in the valley, shot from a different angle
From where I was I could clearly see the buildings located at Alameda Primeiro de Março in Tomar
These three photos below were shot around the area of the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Tomar. Well, panoramic photography is technically taking pictures using special equipment or graphic programs that captures landscapes in some sort of elongated view, but in my case I haven’t used any of that. Just a normal DSLR camera with a zoom that allowed me to capture these beautiful panoramas in the City of Tomar.
From this spot near the Chapel fo Nossa Senhora da Conceição in tomar, I can recognize in the distance the building of Alameda Primeiro de Março
As you can see the historical City of Tomar is located in a beautiful Valley which is crossed by Nabão River, possibly the life and blood of this town. Without the river Tomar wouldn't be as beautiful as it is.
Another panoramic view of Tomar from the area where the Chapel of Senhora da Conceição is located. This time, on the right of the photo, you can also see the old historical town
These photos were shot at a viewpoint outside the castle of Tomar. This place is probably one of the best spots to take photos of panoramic views of the town. The first photo is from the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição and the surroundings hills. The second photo show us the area where Hotel dos Templários was built in 1967 and completely renovated in 1994. The third photo is what I believe to be Estrada de Leiria, which leads to the City of Leiria 56 Km away.
Photo shot from a viewpoint outside the Castle of the Knights Templar. From here we can see the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, built in the 16th century
This photo taken from the same viewpoint near the Castle of Tomar, show us a five star hotel built more than 40 years ago. From here you can also see Varzea Pequena and part of Mouchão Park
On the valley of Tomar you can see part of the town and a road which I believe is Estrada de Leiria, leading to a town about 50 Kilometres away, called City of Leiria
While I was climbing that huge staircase to the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade in the City of Tomar, and later coming down the same way, my finger was constantly on the shutter of my camera, and these are some of the resulting photos. The first photo was shot at normal focal length, but in the other two, I had to zoom the landscape, to be able to capture at a closer proximity, the houses and buildings in the valley where the City of Tomar was built.
City of Tomar in the distance, shot from the huge staircase that leads you the the hill where the Chapel of Nossas Senhora da Piedade was built almost 5 centuries ago
Photo taken from one of the 286 flight of steps, heading to the Chapel of Senhora da Piedade in the City of Tomar. I even managed to capture smoke coming out of a chimney in one of the houses in the valley
This photo, shot near the Chapel of Senhora da Piedade in Tomar, show us some new buildings in the distance and what I believe to be a sports complex of swimming pools
I was almost at the end of my holidays in Portugal (2010) when I asked my sister in law Lucinda Moura, to drive me to Pegões Aqueduct in Tomar. I our way back to the town, we stopped in an area near Estrada de Leiria and I shot these panoramic views of my home city. As you can see the City of Tomar sits in a valley, surrounded by hills where UNESCO listed monuments like the Castle of Tomar and the Convent of Christ were built.

Another panoramic view of the valley where Tomar was built and on the right you can see part of the Convent of Christ, built over a period of several centuries
Different panoramic view of Tomar. In the distance you can see the buildings of the avenue known as Alameda Primeiro de Março and the hills that surround the town
These three panoramic views of Tomar were shot from the same location, that is from the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição which was built more than 470 years ago. Anyway this photos show us the old City of Tomar as well as part of the new, especially Alameda Primeiro de Março and the buildings in that avenue. By moving the camera in different directions I also got Varzea Grande, a bit of the forest behind this area and the Church of São Francisco. The closest photo of these panoramics were from the area of Estrada de Leiria. It is called this way because it is the road that leads to the City of Leiria which about 50 Km away.

Another shot taken from the Senhora da Conceição in Tomar. In the distance you can see a bit of Varzea Grande, the forest behind it and especially the Church of São Francisco
This photo from a distance is from the old City of Tomar and also the new, represented by Alameda Primeiro de Marços and those white buildings
The City of Tomar in Portugal was built in a large valley in the banks of Nabão River, surrounded by hills, and on top of them lie important monuments like the Castle of the Knights Templar, The Convent of Christ, the Chapels of Senhora da Conceição and Senhora da Piedade and so on. From there you can see beautiful panoramic views of Tomar. The first photo below was shot when I was walking to the Castle. So I wasn’t there yet but midway the road that leads to the Castle. The other two photos were shot just outside the castle.
