I believe that photos of skies are beautiful, charming and sometimes even mysterious. Skies are something that many people are fascinated with and in this occasion I was interested in the skies of Tomar. So I shot these pictures in a more modern area of the city. These photos were taken at Alameda Primeiro de Março and Rua Amorim Rosa. Those blocks of apartments aren’t exactly skyscrapers but they are among some of the tallest buildings in town.
The photo of this sky of Tomar and the buildings in the area was shot at Rua Amorim Rosa in Tomar
Another photo of the skies in the City of Tomar, taken at the corner of Rua Amorim Rosa and Alameda 1º de Março
This picture of the skies of Tomar was shot when I was at Alameda Primeiro de Março in Tomar
This was the day the skies of the City of Tomar were covered with chemtrails. Some people strongly believe that chemtrails have a sinister purpose, but others believe otherwise. The latter say that chemtrails do things like managing solar radiation, enhancing rain precipitation, dropping high temperatures, etc. I really don’t know who is right or wrong, but in terms of aesthetic values I have to say that it’s often beautiful. These chemtrails were shot close to the Seven Hills National Forest and Rua Cândido Madureira in Tomar.
Chemtrails in thye skies of Tomar. I shot this picture close to the entrance of the Seven Hills Forest. On the left is the road that leads to the Castle of Tomar and the building on the right used to be the old Hospital of São Brás
I caught these skies with chemtrails when I was inside the walls of the Seven Hills Forest in the City of Tomar
These chemtrails in Tomar were shot near the building that holds a tourist centre at Rua Cândido Madureira
Since I lived at Rua Marquês de Pombal for years, it’s only fair that I include a series of photos of the skies of Tomar shot at this street. The first photo was taken from an area close to the house I used to live, which is on my right although you can see it from this angle. The second photo was shot facing the beginning of this street and in the third one, though I was still at Rua Marquês de Pombal, you can also see the start of Alameda Primeiro de Março.
These are the skies of Tomar shot from Rua Marquês de Pombal, which used to be my street because I lived there. In the distance you can see the Old Bridge and the Castle of Tomar on top of the hill
I shot this picture when I was just leaving Rua Voluntários da República in Tomar and entering Rua Marquês de Pombal. I was coming from the apartment I stayed during my holidays in Portugal
This Rua Marquês de Pombal which possibly marks the end of the old town and the beginning of the new areas of Tomar. Alameda Primeiro de Março is just ahead, marked by those more modern buildings on the right
The church of São João Baptista in Tomar (St John the Baptist) was built between the 15th and 16th centuries and its architectural style is a mix of Manueline and Gothic. In 1910, this church from which you can see the Castle of the Knights Templar on the hill, was classified as a National Monument. On the left side of the church, is the large bell tower with a quadrangular substructure, followed by an octagonal tower, topped by a pyramidal spire.

This time the beautiful skies of Tomar were shot close to the Old Bridge and of course Nabão River, which is a constant feature in this very old European town. As some people say, the sky is the limit, but in this case the skies of Tomar have no limits in their charm and beauty, specially when the main subject under those skies is a bridge that has seen centuries go past, and has allowed generations of people cross its path from one margin of Nabão River to the other, linking the town and making it one as a couple in love.
Sky of the City of Tomar in a summer day. This photo was shot between two bridges, one of them being this century old bridge which has seen many generations cross it from one margin of Nabão River to the other

A cloudy day and their formation in the skies of Tomar. This is the other side of the Old Bridge, shot from Mouchão Park, near some popular restaurants
If you visit the City of Tomar, you will notice that in most areas of the town you can see the Castle of Tomar in the distance. So if you slightly look up to the skies of my home town, you can’t avoid this medieval fortification built by Gualdim Pais, the founder of this historical city and the Master of the Order of the Temple. In this case these photos were shot from Rua Serpa Pinto, the street also known as Corredoura.

This shot of the Castle of the Knights Templar in the city of Tomar, was also taken from corredoura. On the left you can the tower of the Church of São João Baptista

Taking photos of skies is exciting and sometimes even awe-inspiring, considering the wide variety of colours and textures you can get from the skies of our world. In my case, photographing the skies of the City of Tomar in Portugal was quite interesting, given that in Perth, Australia where I live, you get too many flat blue skies particularly during summer. So I kept shooting and in this specific day at Mouchão Park, and in other days too, I got skies with chemtrails. I don’t know why, but in Perth, I don’t remember to have seen skies with chemstrails while in Tomar, this occurred quite often.
I shot this photo with chemtrails in the sky, from a wooden bridge at Mouchão Park, facing the street Rua Marquês de Tomar, in the City of Tomar in Portugal
This is a wooden bridge in Tomar, which crosses Nabão River from the Island of Mouchão Park to the other side where the soccer field is located
Photo shot in that wooden bridge at Mouchão Park. Notice the chemstrails in the sky sprayed by aircraft at high altitude. The purpose of these chemtrails are unknown
Everywhere you go in the world you can sometimes see beautiful skies and Tomar is no exception. That’s why I took the time to capture some exquisite, even spectacular skies and clouds in the City of Tomar in Portugal. In this case, you can see photos of skies at Corredoura (Rua Serpa Pinto), which is the main street of the old Tomar. Song writers, writers and poets have all exalted skies that delighted their senses. Using the words of the Indian writer Rabindranath Tagore, I believe that “clouds came floating into my life” in my home town, not “to carry rain or usher storm” but to “add colour” to my life. That’s how I felt when I took lots of photos of the skies of Tomar, the 800 years old town which was once the last stronghold of the Knights Templar.

Another beautiful sky at Corredoura (Rua Serpa Pinto) in Tomar, but this time it was produced by chemtrails not clouds
Another interesting sky at Rua Serpa Pinto in Tomar, and in the distance we can see the Castle of the Knights Templar
