Another set of indoor photos of shops in Tomar. The first shot was taken at night and is a shopping gallery located at Avenida Cândido Madureira. The photo in the middle is a gift shop at Rua Infantaria Quinze and it’s specifically related to all things about Tomar. It sells souvenirs connected to the history of the city and it even sells wine produced in the region. The last photo is just a shoe shop indoors located at Avenida Nuno Álvares Pereira.

More commercial outlets around the City of Tomar in Portugal. This is a set of photos shot at night. The first photo is of a children’s clothes shop at Rua dos Moinhos, a medieval street in the old area of the town. The second shot was taken at Rua de São João and on the left is a pastry shop with delicious traditional Portuguese pastries and cakes. The last photo show different shops at Rua Serpa Pinto, the famous Corredoura.

In my attempt to cover as much as possible about Tomar and life in the city, in some occasions I took photos of commercial establishments around town. The first photo is from a small shopping centre located at the top of Alameda Primeiro de Março, called Centro Comercial dos Templários (Templars Shopping Centre). The second photo is from a shoe shop located at Avenida Dom Nuno Álvares Pereira called Lojas de Calçado Stara and the third photo is from a supermarket at Rua Voluntários da República called Supermercados Minipreço. These are all places that I went to with my family and actually purchased some goods.

The kiosks and street vendor’s stands can be found in most villages, towns and cities of the world, and Tomar is no exception. It’s almost an universal institution that gives some character to urban areas despite their often makeshift appearance. These kiosks in Tomar usually sell newspapers, magazines, tobacco, bric-a-brac stuff, relatively low priced jewelry, etc. Besides the kiosks you can also see a street vendor selling roasted chestnuts and popcorn.
This photo was shot at night and it's a kiosk called Quiosque Jardim, that sells newspapers, magazines, tobacco and other stuff, next to old street lamps in Tomar, at the garden of Varzea Pequena
In my walks around town, I shot another kiosk at night that sells newspapers, magazines and ice cream, placed at Avenida Norton de Matos near the New Bridge (Ponte Nova) in Tomar.
This is a small stand that sells popcorn and roasted chestnuts on street, in this case at the end of Rua Serpa Pinto in Tomar, near the Old Bridge and Avenida Marquês de Tomar
In my opinion, the absence of big shopping centres in the centre of the City of Tomar is of great benefit for tourists who want to visit the old part of Tomar, as well as for the local shopkeepers. We have all been to shopping centres and it’s remarkable how they all look more or less the same everywhere in the world. So the attraction in the narrow streets of the old Tomar, are the modest picturesque shops that trade on all kinds of things and in these establishments you can probably buy more interesting items that in shopping centres.
Small picturesque shops at a narrow street called Rua Infantaria Quinze in Tomar. I personally bought a few traditional souvenirs and historical mementos from this shop
These shops are located at Rua Serpa Pinto in Tomar, which is also known as Corredoura. One them sells newspapers, magazines and tobacco, another is a fashion boutique and another is a shop dedicated to house decoration
These shops are at Rua Everard in Tomar, also known as Levada. This location is close to the Old Bridge of Tomar, Nabão River and Mouchão Park
During my time spent in Tomar on holidays in 2010, one of my favourite things to do was to go out at night with my family, have a coffee and then do some window shopping, before going back to my mother’s apartment. Since I always took my camera with me, as a result I got some very interesting photos of Tomar at night. In this case I shot a few show windows in different parts of the town. The first photo below was shot at Rua dos Moinhos, the second one was taken at Rua Marquês de Pombal and the third one is a show window at Praça da República (Republic Square) where the statue of Gualdim Pais is located.

The City of Tomar in Portugal organizes a good number of cultural events every year and many shops in the town join forces to promote those events. So while I was taking photos of the city I came upon decorated show windows with items related to those special occasions. The first photo show mannequins dressed with costumes of historical Portuguese personalities. This was a promotion of the Festival of Human Statues (Festival de Estátuas Vivas). The second window belongs to a photography shop and show us photos of weddings from the beginning of the 20th century. The third photo present us with a very old sewing machine, probably from the 19th century. All these three show windows are from shops situated at Corredoura (Rua Serpa Pinto).
