I shot these photos of Nabão River (Rio Nabão) and the old buildings nearby, from two different places. One of them from an area that not many people visit, despite the fact that it’s quite close to the centre of Tomar. The other place was the New Bridge of Tomar which connects Avenida Norton de Matos to a roundabout called Praceta Alves Redol. In this set of photos you can also see the bridge King Dom Manuel I (Ponte Velha).
The buildings on the other side of Nabão River (Rio Nabão) used belong to a company called Mended Godinho
I was at the New Bridge near Avenida Norton de Matos in Tomar when I shot this picture. Apparently the tall chimney on the other side of the river was once connected to a steam machine
In the distance of Nabão River is the Old Bridge of Tomar, also called King Dom Manuel I
Another set of photos of Nabão River in Tomar. This time I was on a platform located at Mouchão Park near a Children’s playground and the soccer field, where you can rent a yellow boat to sail around the river. My family and I were actually interested in renting one, but it was already the beginning of autumn and there was no one there to rent us one of those fiberglass pedal boats. In any case the views from this area are beautiful. On the other side of the river you can spot the Old Bridge of Tomar (Ponte Velha), also known as Bridge of King Manuel I (Ponte de D. Manuel)
When I shot this photo of Nabão River I was on a platform at Mouchão Park in Tomar. Here the Town council of Tomar rents fiberglass pedal boats to sail around the river
From this platform at Nabão River you can see the Old Bridge of Tomar on the other side. This bridge is also called Ponte D. Manuel

The photos of this part of Nabão River in Tomar were shot from Mouchão Island. The first two photos are close to Estalagem de Santa Iria and to a somewhat rough pathway which doubles as a dam. This trodden path links the two areas of the park. On this side is the island garden, but on the other side of the river is the swimming pool Vasco Jacob, the Camping Park of Tomar, the soccer and athletics field, the children’s playground and the sports pavilion.
Photo of Nabão River shot from the Island of Mouchão Park. On my left there is a staircase that leads to a rough pathway which connects the river from the island to the other side of the Park
This is a photo of a rough pathway at Nabão River in Tomar which is also a dam. This shot was taken from the top of small staircase at the Island of Mouchão Park
Another photo fo Nabão River shot from the Island of Mouchão. On the other side you can find some conveniences like a swimming pool, a camping park, a children's playground, a basketball court, etc
When a visitor enters the City of Tomar he or she will encounter a quiet river surrounded by beautiful parks, as you can see in these photos below. This is Nabão River or Rio Nabão as the Portuguese call it. The Romans named this river in Tomar as Nabanus, but there was a time in the middle ages that the river took the name of the town in archaic Portuguese. So Nabão River or Nabanus River was also known as Thomar River.
This photo of Nabão River was shot from the Old Bridge of Tomar in Portugal. Those yellow boats in the distance are used by tourists to navigate around some areas of the river
Nabão River in a different day. The island of Mouchão Park and the inn called Estalagem de Santa Iria, can be seen from the spot where I was at the Old Bridge of Tomar
Photo still taken from the Old Bridge but in a different direction of Mouchão Park. On the other side of Nabãoo River is a kids playground a sports pavilion and a soccer field
During the six weeks that I spent in Portugal in September and October 2010, after lunch, my family and I used to have coffee at Estrelas de Tomar, an old coffee shop with entrances from Rua Serpa Pinto and Rua Marquês de Tomar. As this coffee shop also faces the river in one of its sides, and as I always carried my camera with me, I never missed an opportunity to take a few photos, especially from Nabão River. So here is the result in one of those spontaneous photos sessions.
Photo of Nabão River shot at Rua Marquês de Tomar. On the right side is Estrelas de Tomar, an old coffee and pastry shop. The House of Vieira Guimarães can also be seen in the picture
I walked a bit further down Rua Marquês de Tomar and shot this picture of Nabão River, near the dams. In the distance you can see those white buildings at Avenida Primeiro de Março, a more modern area of the town
I was leaning against the rails that separate Rua Marquês de Tomar from Nabão River, when I shot this picture. Behind me was Estrelas de Tomar, the coffee shop where I had just savoured a bica (Portuguese espresso coffee)
Three magnificent views to the falls of Nabão River in Tomar, Portugal. Not only the falls but also the river itself in a beautiful summer day, with the old city and the Castle of the Knights Templar in the background. Even the wild life, which at Nabão River is mostly ducks, appeared to be happy. At some distance you can also see Vieira Guimarães building and a few houses occupied by the Tourist Centre of Tomar and a local government building that helps the unemployed to find jobs.

Beautiful view to the falls of Nabão River and on the background is the old town of Tomar and the Castle of the knights Templar.
Another view of the falls at Nabão River in the Templar's City. It was in this historical and beautiful Portuguese town that the last stronghold of the Knights Templar was located
These three photos of Nabão River (Rio Nabão) in Tomar were shot from the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição which is situated on one of the hills of Tomar. Nabão River is probably the reason Tomar is one of the most beautiful small towns in Portugal and maybe even in Europe. This is a place which was once the town of the Templars, a city which many people believe should be known throughout the world for its beauty and historical riches and Nabão River is very much part of it.

A different perspective of Nabão River. At a distance you can also see the old Bridge of Tomar, heading to Rua Marquês de Pombal
In this shot you can see not only Nabão River but also the green areas of Mouchão Park and the bridge that crosses from the street Rua Marquês de Tomar to the park
This is Nabão River in Tomar in different days. This town has a diverse range of weather patterns and nature’s moods as you can see on these photos, and Nabão River which cuts across the City of Tomar, is one of its main attractions. This River which was once called Nabanus by the Romans, given that the town was named Nabantia (Nabância) at the time, is also a recreational and sporting area where small boats and canoes are seen around, especially in summer days.
