As soon as you approach Nabão River on most areas of Tomar, you can immediately see lots of ducks swimming around. They are part of the environment and at least in this river they are protected species. Many people like to feed them and that’s why they usually swim in greater numbers close to places where tourists and the local population tend to gather or pass by. This set of photos were taken from Rua Marquês de Tomar and Rua Fonte do Choupo.

I have to confess that I am more of a dog lover than a cat lover but that doesn’t mean I don’t like cats. In fact I love the fact the they aren’t as noisy as dogs. In certain occasions a barking dog can drive you crazy, but cats rarely do. Anyway these are Portuguese cats from Tomar. The first photo is a cat I found around the area of Luanda Inn and Restaurant, close to Varzea Pequena. The other two photos are from a small cat at Lameiras Farm in the country side of Tomar.

The same cat at Lameiras Farm in Tomar. This is a somewhat wild cat as it wasn't really domesticated. Every time I tried to approach it, it would run away
This spot in Nabão River in Tomar, close to Mouchão Park and a couple of well known restaurants, is always full of fish, usually big and fat like these ones. Since there are restaurants nearby, their customers often come here and feed them with scraps of food, mainly bread. As a result fish tend to concentrate here in large numbers. This spot in Tomar would probably be a dream for anglers, but fishing is forbidden here. It would be too easy to catch fish in this area and I’m sure anglers are all after a challenge not easy captures.
When I shot this picture of this shoal of fish at Nabão River in Tomar, I was leaning on a small wall separating the river and a road that leads to Mouchão Park
Behind me are tow well known restaurants near Mouchão Park and their customers often come here to feed the fish, usually in the same spot I took this photo.
The area of Nabão River that flows through and crosses the City of Tomar is always teeming with fish but you are now allowed to fish here. It would be too easy for anglers to catch fish in this stretch of waters
One of the attractions at Nabão River in Tomar, is the duck population. You can see dozens of this aquatic birds swimming, eating, playing and socializing in the peaceful surroundings of Mouchão Park and the river that crosses the City of Tomar. They especially like to gather in places where people feed them. People go to restaurants at lunch and dinner time and so do the ducks of Tomar. There are a couple of restaurants overlooking Nabão River that attract them there, because once people finish their meals, they feed them with food scraps, specially bread.
Nabão River in the City Tomar in Portugal, has a significant population of ducks who often approach restaurants near the river, to be fed by diners.
I couldn't possible identify these species of ducks at Nabão River in Tomar, because I don't know much about them, there are many types and they also tend to crossbreed, thus forming mixed flocks

Many cities and towns in the world, specially city squares have pigeons everywhere and some are even famous because of that, like Trafalgar Square in London. The small City of Tomar also has a square called Praça da República, which like other plazas is also full of pigeons, but this time we decided to show you just a few pigeons, in places a bit distant from that square. They probably live in that square where the Town Council of Tomar is situated, but they also fly away to other parts of the town, perhaps with the expectation of being fed, away from the competition.

This isn’t specifically about the City of Tomar, given that you can find dogs and puppies all over the world but since I love these wonderful pets, and they live in my home town, I decided to include them in this site. The first photo is from Rita, a female dog that belongs to my mother. She is a wonderful pet and companion, smart and friendly and my 87 years old mum couldn’t live without her. The second photo is from another female dog. In this photo she is at Praça da República (Republic Square) in Tomar at a coffee shop with her owners. The third photo shot at Lameiras Farm, still in the region of Tomar but near the town of Ferreira do Zêzere, is from a puppy whose owner is my brother in law Manuel Moura.

There is an area in the City of Tomar in Portugal, near the restaurants Bela Vista and Nabão, both overlooking Nabão River and Mouchão Park, where you can find a good number of pigeons, ducks swimming around, and a huge number of fish. The reason for the gathering of these creatures at this place, are the restaurants nearby and of course the people who lunch and dine there and then feed the animals. In the first photo below, the restaurants are just behind me, and if you look down to the river you’ll be able to see the ducks and shoals of fish which are often there hoping for scraps of food to fall on them.
