Buildings and spaces at Varzea Grande in Tomar
This is Varzea Grande in Tomar, officially known as Largo 5 de Outuburo. This is an area of the town that hasn’t changed much over the years and it has been the stage of historical events, military parades and lately it’s been the space used for fairs and events, especially the Santa Iria Showgrounds, which is organized every year in the month of September. It is here right in the middle of Varzea Grande that an historical column was built when King Felipe III of Spain and Portugal, gave the ownership of this space to the people of Tomar, against the wishes of the Order of Christ.
